At a monthly meeting, artists talk shop

It was less than an inconspicuous group that gathered Thursday night at Speisekemer Restaurant in Alameda.
At one side of a wooden table at the German-themed bar well-known photographer Bill Owens talked earnestly with other photographers. Between sips of beer and espresso, other artists called out complements over someone’s handmaid jewelry.

Tube closing

The Webster St. Tube will be closed Sept. 20 from 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for paving repairs. Check out the city’s website.

Talker issues

Alameda is in the midst of change. There is opportunity to develop, possibly altering parts of the island city. Demographics are also shifting–while many left after the Naval Air Station closed in 1997, there are others coming into the city.
