Alameda is in the midst of change. There is opportunity to develop, possibly altering parts of the island city. Demographics are also shifting–while many left after the Naval Air Station closed in 1997, there are others coming into the city. Development and Education are the two areas where these changes are taking place.

The City of Alameda is said to be the geographic center for the San Francisco Bay Area region. It is an island city, encompassing 11 square miles and is connected to the mainland with three bridges to Oakland, and two one-way tunnels.
